Twenty-eight students. One portal. It only takes one of them.
The group votes, and the vote lands on the guy whose name almost nobody in the room actually remembers. That’s the first ten minutes — everything after is what a person does once he has already been written off.
ANOMIA is an adult visual novel about the quiet arithmetic a group performs when somebody has to be spent, and about what the spent one turns into on the other side of the gate.

About security warnings
The game is not code-signed — I’m one person, and a signing certificate costs
more than this free project earns. Two things can happen on Windows because of
that:
SmartScreen: “Windows protected your PC” / “unknown publisher”.
Click More info -> Run anyway.
Antivirus false positive: Defender or a third-party scanner may flag
  ANOMIA.exe as a trojan — “Trojan:Win32/Wacatac”, “heuristic”, “unknown
publisher” and similar. This is a known false positive for unsigned,
self-contained game builds: the detection is about how the executable is
packaged, not about what is inside it.
If your antivirus quarantines or deletes the file, add the game’s folder to the
exclusion list, or restore the file from quarantine. I would rather you not
switch your antivirus off entirely — one folder exclusion is enough. If you want
a second opinion before running it, put the archive through VirusTotal: a handful
of obscure engines complaining while the major ones stay clean is the normal
picture for builds like this.
The game does not install anything and does not touch your system outside its own
folder — no installer, no registry writes, no network access. Saves live in the
standard Ren’Py user save directory.

v0.4.0 — Act II: The Academy (2026-09-23)
Act II is in, and on its own it is longer than the Prologue and Act I put together:
5,191 lines of script against 3,822.
Story
– Twelve chapters inside the Academy. You arrive as a new student nobody has heard of,
into the same year as the classmates who voted you through the seventh gate.
– 38 new recorded decisions, 41 points where the game stops and asks you, and five
endings — one of them ends the run on the spot.
– An investigation runs against you the whole act. You examine a body yourself: five
points on the scene, an evidence journal that fills with what you actually found, and
two arguments you can hand the investigator or keep. He also keeps a hidden count of
everything careless you say, and tells you when it goes up.
– A path screen before Act II. Renegade is the path this act is written for; Hero and
  Wanderer are locked.
Adult content
– Three new night scenes, each behind a choice and each missable: Livia (43 frames),
Vera (40 frames), Severa (38 frames).
– The Prologue’s empty lecture hall scene is now 30 frames instead of 8.
– Gallery: 313 images, 165 of them new in this version, sorted by act and chapter.
Combat and progression
– Three battles: Bruno in the Ring in front of the whole year, Severa in the archive
vault with the papers burning, and a finale whose opponent depends on the goal you
take — hunt the man responsible, or get twelve people out from under the tower. You
  do not get both.
– Nine Renegade talents open in Act II on top of the Rapier and Wings disciplines, and
  every finished chapter pays experience.
Art and sound
– 21 full-screen story CGs for Act II, played with no dialogue box.
– 49 new backgrounds at 2560×1440 and 26 new character sprites with full expression
sets: the Academy cast, plus your own group re-dressed in uniform.
– 35 new tracks by Scott Buckley (CC BY 4.0) — character themes, the inquiry, the fights.
Saves
– Saves from 0.3.0 do not carry over: the Prologue and Act I were revised again and the
script no longer lines up with them. Please start a new game.
– Gallery unlocks, favourites, difficulty and settings are stored separately and are kept.
v0.3.0 — the big one (2026-09-11)
Every chapter of the Prologue and Act I was rewritten line by line, the game got
a combat system it did not have before, a full score, and a rebuilt interface at
2560×1440. Same twelve chapters — a different game around them.
Writing — all twelve chapters rewritten
– The vote is no longer something you are told about: twenty-eight people do the
arithmetic out loud and the cast speaks for itself instead of being narrated at.
– The protagonist’s biography and the chronology of Day X finally agree with each
other, and the gates are read by the marks cut into their thresholds.
– Twelve key moments play as a full frame with no dialogue box. Three of the twelve
belong to a single path, so one playthrough does not see all of them.
Combat — new system, built from scratch
– Turn-based combat as a real module: entropy as the resource you live on,
health as the state of the body, windups you can read and interrupt, stances
you can break, and wounds that stay with you for the rest of the fight.
– Five story battles across Act I — the field lesson, the Hollows, Ruta, Gaius
and Constant. Each one ends on its own conditions, not on a generic “enemy at
zero”; a battle you skip pays no reward.
– 37 talents across four trees: Foundation, plus Hero, Renegade and Wanderer.
Level cap 20, four active skill slots, and the top tier of a path tree is one
crown out of three — you pick one and lose the others.
– 25 passives earned from events, decisions and your class, each one a line the
protagonist actually carries out of the scene it came from.
– Four difficulties — Story, Calm, Normal, Harsh — switchable at any time. Story
exists so the fights never stand between you and the writing.
Choices and paths
– Eight decisions are recorded across the game; four of them carry the weight
that settles the protagonist onto one of three paths.
– Three decisions still run on an eight-second bar with no countdown digits.
Silence remains a valid answer with an outcome of its own.
– Nothing is rolled behind your back. An option that is shown does what it says.
Art
– 76 CG in the gallery, up from 64, uncensored.
– All 38 backgrounds re-shot natively at 2560×1440 — obelisks, the lecture hall,
the rooftop, the wasteland and the castle locations. New backgrounds and CG are
authored at 2K from here on rather than upscaled.
– The game’s virtual resolution is now 2560×1440.
Interface
– The main menu now stands on the obelisk, and the whole UI was rebuilt with it.
– New screens: talents, passives, and a skills screen built as a showcase rather
  than a spreadsheet.
– Gallery: sorted by act and chapter, with filters and favourites that survive a
  restart. Gamepad navigation throughout.
– Reading interface reworked — history, saves and screens reachable mid-scene
  without losing your place.
Saves
– Saves from 0.2.0 do not carry over — every chapter was rewritten and the
script no longer lines up with them. Please start a new game.
– Gallery unlocks, favourites, difficulty and settings are stored separately and
  are kept.
v0.2.0 — Initial release (2026-09-02)
– Prologue and Act I: twelve chapters, approximately 4,100 lines, 64 CG.
– Seven decisions settling the protagonist onto one of three paths, three of them
  on an eight-second timer.
– Full English and Russian text. Windows and Linux.
Developer Notes:
Made by one person. The game is free and stays free – there is no paid version and no better build. The Patreon buys chapters earlier and access to how it’s made, not a different game.
Seven decisions across the game settle the protagonist onto one of three paths. Three of them run on an eight-second timer: not answering is an answer and has its own outcome. Nothing is rolled behind your back – if an option is available, taking it does what it says.
This is the first part of a longer story. Act I ends where it ends, and Act II is being written now. Bug reports and criticism are genuinely welcome – I can’t test everything alone.
