v0.4 Relaunch

– 1,500 new renders: While many of these are strictly visual upgrades for old content, many of these images make up entirely new scenes and interactions that take place early on in the game. I sought to fix early pacing issues, as well as better execute certain characterizations and themes I think I did an amateur job of establishing.

– 50 animations: I spent a lot of the time over the last past few months improving in every facet of development, and I think that’s going to be most clear in my animations. These animations are the best I’ve ever made and showcase the quality I intend to commit to going forward. Those who have played the original chapter know that the two earliest H-scenes don’t features animations at all (they are, instead, just cycling images); these scenes have, of course, been fully redone and extended, as have the rest of the early game H-content. I’ve also begun implementing choreographed timeline animation for non-sexual content that I think (or hope) people will enjoy.

– Updated pacing and changes: I’ve never shied away from the fact that this is a porn game. This is not something I’m ashamed of, and I have no intention of ever being any kind of slowburn. That being said, I do think I treated some characters unfairly in my initial writing, and I wanted to give them a second chance. This means that certain early game H-content that I deem rushed, forced, or exceedingly unromantic has been removed from the game. This primarily affects Nora and her two scenes, both of which have been removed from the story (though the scenes are still playable in the game’s gallery). This is the right choice for her. She deserves romance, wining and dining, etc.

Developer Notes:

Love by the Water is an urban-fantasy harem romance influenced by slice-of-life comedy and the horror-mystery genres.

FAQ:

While harem is this game’s canon route, every love interest and h-scene involving the MC is optional and fully avoidable; there is no forced romance and every choice is really obvious. This does not mean that you can choose to opt out of certain stories altogether. While romance with a character is fully optional, most friendships are not.
The futa/trans tag refers to Frankie, a trans-girl, who is a close friend to the MC and an optional love interest. The gay tag refers to Liam, an optional femboy love interest.
There is no NTR and won’t be. If you’re on Frankie’s path, there will be group content with her, but these scenes will be customizable to your interests. This is not NTR.
The “Relaunch” refers to when I updated the renders for a majority of the game’s first chapter and changed some content. The original first chapter featured lewd scenes with no animation whatsoever and exceedingly ugly visuals. It’s since been overhauled. I won’t be doing another update cycle dedicated to reworks, but I will continue updating old renders from Chapter 2 alongside new chapters when it makes sense. I’ve grown a lot as a developer, and I want everyone to have a good experience from the beginning when they try my game. I want to be proud of the entire product.
