Offline, on your own graphics card. No limits, no subscription, nothing leaves your machine. Needs about 12GB of VRAM for a model worth talking to; below that the replies get slow and the character forgets things.

Online, on my servers. Nothing to install, works on a phone through a browser, message limits by plan. This is what a subscription pays for.

Same app and same characters either way, and you can switch between them.

What the web version can’t do: your own characters. A browser isn’t allowed to read image folders from your device, so custom characters are desktop-only. The desktop app comes with any paid plan. There’s no iOS app and there won’t be.

Planned, no dates yet. Cloud storage for your own characters so they work on a phone, then a library for sharing characters. Both depend on subscriber numbers, also a more user friendly front facing character creator page, more RP mechanics (leaving returning mechanics, jumping to different characters on a map or list, possible later idea of a RPG mechanic style mode (HP money items)

About the alpha. The online version runs on rented GPUs and I’ll be tuning capacity as real usage arrives, so expect some slow replies and the occasional gap during the first month. The offline version isn’t affected, it runs on your machine.

(Cost of running cloud GPUs makes me pretty terrified) Subscriptions pay for those GPUs, which bill by the hour. If the numbers don’t cover them I can’t keep them running, and I’ll say so rather than let the service quietly explode

Start free. With the offline version here and There’s a free tier so you can try the online service (just 15 messages), and a Starter tier that’s closer to an extended trial. Patreon discounts the difference when you move up, so starting small costs you nothing if you decide to upgrade later. And if you have the graphics card, the offline version is the full thing at no cost.

Founding subscribers. The first 100 Standard Subscribers or above get a founder number on their account. Some benefits come early, others later — but the plan is that when the project reaches 1000 subscribers, all 100 founders are upgraded to platinum free for life(or until the service dies)
